Defining Democracy: An Overview

Freedom of the press, separation of powers, and the other pillars of our democracy are not just theoretical ideas; they help secure what matters most – a meaningful life in a free society. But too many of us have forgotten these important truths, and we are going to do whatever we can to help folks remember with the Defining Democracy campaign.

Each week, we will define a different principle that is important to understanding democracy. This definition will be accompanied by a narrative that illustrates the importance of the principle to our everyday lives.

Our goal here is simple. We want to discuss democracy in a way that is accessible and relatable. We have to do a better job of engaging people in a conversation about why the principles and ideas in the Constitution matter to our lives and why we must protect them against threats both foreign and domestic.
