On June 25th at 12 pm EDT, The Renew Democracy Initiative is pleased to invite you to join a virtual interactive conversation with our Chairman Garry Kasparov along with RDI board members Sen. Bob Kerrey and Linda Chavez about Garry’s favorite novel, The Master and Margarita. This exclusive access event is only available to RDI subscribers, and tickets (while free!) are limited to the first 40 subscribers who sign up.
One hot spring afternoon, the devil arrives in Moscow. What follows is Mikhail Bulgakov’s The Master and Margarita—a fantastical satire of life in the Soviet Union during the darkest days of Stalin’s regime. The novel’s depiction of Soviet oppression in the 1930s was so true to life that it couldn’t be published during Bulgakov’s lifetime, with a heavily censored edition appearing only in 1966.
So why now? The work was not just an allegory for life under Soviet repression, but an indictment of the KGB-style authoritarianism practiced today by Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and autocrats the world over. Join Garry as we discuss the enduring questions The Master and Margarita asks about totalitarianism, absolute power, and human nature—themes no less relevant today than when Bulgakov first raised them.
Register now to secure your spot in this intimate conversation with Garry and others in the RDI community. Tickets are free(!), but we only have 40 spots available! Please register below.
