about jikany
In his advocacy work, Tut provides a vital voice for vulnerable groups within South Sudanese society. His efforts focus on safeguarding the rights of individuals such as prisoners of war, political detainees, civil society advocates, and humanitarian aid workers who often endure persecution and hardships. By raising awareness about their plights, he seeks to foster a climate of dignity and respect, ensuring that these individuals receive the attention and support they deserve.
Additionally, Tut is passionate about education and recognizes its transformative power. He is particularly dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities for South Sudanese citizens living in refugee camps, a population that faces severe barriers to learning. He firmly believes that access to education is crucial for personal empowerment and community development. To this end, he champions initiatives that provide essential learning experiences and skill-building programs, equipping individuals with the resources needed to improve their lives and contribute positively to their communities.
A key moment in Tut’s career was his significant involvement in the advanced team for the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), culminating in the signing of a historic peace agreement in September 2018. Although the implementation of this agreement faced substantial hurdles, Tut’s unwavering dedication to peacebuilding and reconciliation remains evident. He continues to leverage his extensive knowledge of democracy, international relations, and human rights to promote constructive dialogue and collaborative solutions, all aimed at establishing a more peaceful and equitable society.
In 2025, Tut established the South Sudan Democracy Initiative, responding to the pressing need to confront ongoing threats to democracy and human rights both within South Sudan and among the South Sudanese diaspora.
SSDNI is dedicated to advocating for democratic values while actively opposing anti-democratic policies that jeopardize civic freedoms and restrict political participation. Through strategic outreach and engagement, SSDNI aims to empower citizens, ensuring that every South Sudanese individual has the opportunity to participate meaningfully in shaping their future. By fostering a robust framework for democracy, Tut and his team aspire to build a more just and equitable society for all.
