Director of Programming & Digital Media (Freelance)
ABOUT THE POSITION
RDI is building a movement to defend freedom through effective storytelling, thought-provoking events, direct aid to frontline communities, and cultivating unlikely alliances. We are looking for a Director of Programming & Digital Media to spearhead RDI’s video content network. This role is responsible for the organization’s overarching content and media strategy. In addition to managing this project, the Director of Programming & Digital Media will work closely with the rest of the leadership team to ensure that RDI’s broader content is compelling and effectively distributed. This role reports to the CEO and will oversee RDI’s entire production team. This is a freelance position with a weekly rate.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Programming, Content & Strategy
- Lead content strategy, which includes pitching, production, post-production, and distribution (YouTube and other social platforms).
- Oversee editorial direction in consultation with the CEO and production team.
- Create a positive feedback loop by reviewing video performance and making changes in content or YouTube distribution strategy when appropriate.
- Work with production to serve as the primary full-time point-of-contact for external vendors and freelancers involved with RDI productions.
- Oversee the content budget.
- Support increase in video production volume by providing a strong rolodex of production companies and freelancers like creative producers, directors, shooter/editors, etc.
- Thought partner with the CEO and others to think about how to grow the project and drive interest among viewers, partners, nonprofit funders, and investors.
Distribution & Marketing
- In collaboration with the CEO and other stakeholders, define target audience and KPIs, constantly iterating on concepts and formats.
- Develop a programming, distribution, and promotion plan for RDI’s content to maximize reach with target audiences across YouTube and other social platforms.
- Drive growth on RDI’s social media channels measured by number of subscribers and engagement. KPIs and metrics to be determined in 30, 60, and 90-day increments in collaboration with the CEO and production.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- 7-10 years of digital media experience required, including content strategy and knowledge around content frame-working for digital media.
- Experience with creative development that influences early stages of series conception, which leads to virality, engagement, and community building.
- Experience building social media channels from scratch and significantly increasing reach.
- Unique capacity to convey a strong point of view, and to sometimes be provocative, within RDI’s voice and aligning with our values.
- Deep understanding of what makes a strong, compelling story.
- Strong working knowledge of foreign and domestic news and issues.
- Deep knowledge of current media trends when it comes to digital content strategy for video and social media platforms.
- Ability to communicate notes/edits effectively.
