Berta Valle is a Nicaraguan journalist and human rights advocate with extensive experience in media and international advocacy. Forced into exile in 2018, she became a leading international voice for political prisoners following the arbitrary detention of her husband, opposition leader Félix Maradiaga. Her advocacy contributed to sustained international efforts that accompanied his release and that of 221 other Nicaraguan political prisoners in 2023.
She is a co-founder of the World Liberty Congress Political Prisoners Support Team and the End Arbitrary Detention global initiative, and serves as President of the Fundación para la Libertad de Nicaragua.
Her work also explores the intersection of human rights and freedom technologies, including Bitcoin, Nostr, and secure decentralized tools, to counter financial censorship, strengthen digital resilience, and expand access to humanitarian support for activists and civil society living under authoritarian regimes.
