about Duarte
As Executive Director of the Nicaraguan Freedom Foundation (Fundacíon Libertad), Jonathan leads efforts to expose human rights abuses, advocate for political prisoners, and push for democratic change in Nicaragua. His work ensures that the voices of those silenced by repression are heard on the global stage, rallying international support for freedom in his homeland.
Beyond Nicaragua, Jonathan plays a key role in the World Liberty Congress (WLC), serving on its Leadership Council for The Americas. WLC unites pro-democracy leaders, dissidents, and activists from around the world in a common mission: to stand against authoritarianism and promote liberty. Through this platform, he works to strengthen global coalitions and provide strategic support to those on the frontlines of the fight for democracy.
Jonathan is also a Member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Alianza Para Centroamérica, an organization focused on fostering regional cooperation, economic opportunity, and democratic stability. By connecting civil society leaders, policymakers, and international allies, the alliance tackles the root causes of instability and works to create a future where democracy can thrive across Central America.
Additionally, he is a Human Rights Foundation (HRF) Freedom Fellow, a distinction given to exceptional activists and leaders working to advance individual rights and challenge authoritarian rule worldwide. Through this fellowship, he collaborates with a global network of changemakers committed to defending freedom in some of the world’s most repressive environments.
From electoral campaigns to global advocacy, Jonathan Duarte is at the forefront of the struggle for liberty, using his skills, experience, and unwavering commitment to help democratic movements win—and authoritarian regimes lose.
