RDI´s 2024 Heroes of Democracy Gala

We invite you to join us at RDI’s second annual Heroes of Democracy Gala for an evening of dinner, drinks, and celebration. This year we are proud to honor Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, who has unwaveringly stood up to autocrats, the courageous Georgia poll workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss who did their duty in 2020 despite unprecedented personal attacks from election deniers, Representative Adam Kinzinger, who took great personal and political risks to defend American democracy in Congress, and Senator John Fetterman, an advocate for our democratic allies in Ukraine and Israel. We look forward to honoring them and raising a toast with our community this spring.

2024 Honorees

RDI’s Heroes of Democracy are remarkable individuals who have fought for freedom around the globe, often at great personal risk.

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas

The Russian government put her on a wanted list, but the prime minister of the tiny nation of Estonia stands tall in the face of tyrants and demonstrates why her country is a cornerstone of the democratic alliance.

Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss

There’s no democracy without the right to vote, and there’s no right to vote without poll workers. Since 2020, this mother-daughter duo has faced vicious attacks for performing that essential public service.

Representative Adam Kinzinger

Representative Adam Kinzinger put patriotism over party when he led the way in investigating the January 6 insurrection. A stalwart advocate for freedom and democracy, Rep. Kinzinger has also championed American leadership and assistance to Ukraine on and off of Capitol Hill.

Senator John Fetterman

A leader who recognizes America is stronger when we stand with our democratic allies, Senator John Fetterman is a vocal advocate for aid to Ukraine and Israel. That stance has earned him some loud critics—but the senator isn’t backing down.

RDI’s 2023 Heroes of Democracy

Last year RDI held our inaugural Gala where we honored our very first Heroes of Democracy:

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba

He became the youngest foreign minister in Ukraine’s history. Now, the country’s chief diplomat fights on the world stage to get the aid his fellow citizens need to keep up the fight at home.

Carine Kanimba

Her father saved over a thousand people during a genocide. Then, the dictatorship in their native Rwanda threw him in prison. She helped get him out.

US Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth McDonough and her colleagues

When insurrectionists broke into the Capitol Building on January 6, these dedicated public servants bravely shepherded our democratic process and the transfer of power.

Philanthropist Howard Buffett

When Russia invaded Ukraine, Howard Buffett affirmed that Kyiv must win. He’s backed up that bold belief by putting hundreds of millions of dollars toward Ukraine’s survival and recovery.
